DadiRaniSati

The grandmother of Rajasthan, remembered in fire and song.

The story

What is the story of Dadi Rani Sati?

Bhavya Kavikala Arts stages Dadi Rani Sati as Rajasthan itself remembers her — Narayani Devi of Jhunjhunu, honoured across generations simply as Dadi Ji.

Hers is a devotion kept alive less by any single text than by families. Tradition venerates Narayani Devi as an embodiment of Shakti — a life the community remembers for its courage, purity and total devotion — and that memory is carried in the mangal-path recited at home, the bhajans sung through jagran nights, and the great Rani Sati temple complex at Jhunjhunu, one of Shekhawati's most visited shrines. The production tells her story the way the tradition itself tells it: in song, as homage.

Kavitaa Singh's live vocals hold the centre of the evening, with the mridangam and full live ensemble carrying the bhajan repertoire the tradition is built on.

The staging leans on carefully researched Rajasthani costume — 140 hand-stitched pieces for the 60+ artists — while the 40-foot LED backdrop recreates the painted havelis and temple courts of Jhunjhunu's Shekhawati country. Arpit Sharma directs; the evening is in Hindi.
