Rasaभक्तिBhaktidevotion, surrendered and ecstatic
Bhavya Kavikala Arts stages Meera Ke Mohan as the story of a princess who weighed a kingdom against her Giridhar — and never hesitated.
Meera was born into the royal house of Merta and married into Mewar, and by every rule of a sixteenth-century Rajput court her life was settled. Instead she sang — publicly, scandalously — to Krishna, calling him her only bridegroom. Tradition holds that the court sent her a cup of poison and she drank it as charanamrit, unharmed; that a serpent delivered in a basket of flowers turned to a shaligram in her hands. In the end she walked out of the palace altogether, singing her way to Vrindavan and then Dwarka, where tradition holds she merged into the deity she had loved all her life.
Her bhajans did what the court could not imagine: they outlived the kingdom. The production builds its score around them — "pāyo jī maine rāma ratana dhana pāyo" among others — sung live by vocalist Kavitaa Singh over the mridangam, in the Rajasthani-Hindi idiom the songs were born in.
On stage, 60+ artists in 180 hand-stitched costumes move between Merta's sandstone courts and the groves of Vrindavan on a 40-foot LED backdrop. Directed by Arpit Sharma, the production is announced for 14 August 2026 at B M Birla Auditorium, Jaipur.
